We are visiting a new continent for this week's as our international fan of the week is Arianna from Canada! You may know her from Twitter as @arianna483 She is our first fan of the week outside of Europe or Australia and I'm sure she won't be the last.
Arianna has shared her favourites and they are all from different eras - very impreesive! Check out our Q&A with her below.
What is your name and where are you from? My name is Arianna and I am from Canada!
What do you do or tell us something interesting about you?
I do pointe ballet as a hobby, I love electronic music (particularly trance), I love rural exploration and I live near the largest polar bear habitat in the world. Currently I'm working on my second diploma..I should just be a student foreverrrr
When did you first get into Eurovision? I first got into Eurovision after researching Kate Ryan for a French project the year she happened to be participating! I really got into watching NFs in 2012 after being introduced by Moldova and some cardboard cutouts they used for props as clouds
Which is your favourite Eurovision year and why?
There are so many strong years! I love 1959..rotating stage, great early edition, lovely presenter, 1980 for a hilarious show they pulled together at the last minute. The penguin, Germany's mimes, songs about a bus stop and petrol oil, the memeworthy Euro-Vision, the Caribbean flavoured steel-band and the themed telephones, you couldn't make it up.. I also enjoy 1998 for quality songs and for me, most recently 2012 for high quality, memorable songs!
Love the mix of eras! ~ Aussievision
Which Eurovision song:
Is the best?
It's hard to just choose one best song!! My personal fave is Poupée de cire poupée de son, Rendez-Vous and Euphoria!
Poupée de cire poupée de son is a great choice!
Is overrated?
I have a firm belief that people should enjoy music however they want, but I'm not a fan of Believe..sorry
I love Dima, Believe was a fantastic winner! ~ Mike, Aussievision I agree with you, Believe is very overrated! ~ Dale, Aussievision
Was robbed?
Robbed.. Je T'adore..even though I can accept its eurotrashness
Had the best live performance?
My fave performance! Hmm, again, I can't just settle on one! I love Rona Nishliu's Suus. It's so spine chilling. Also love Georgia 2007 and shout outs to Spain 1990, Austria 1983 and Portugal 1982
Did you last play?
Brazil by Bebi Dol haha
Is your guilty pleasure? Wir geben 'ne Party
Being from a country that doesn't compete do you have any countries you support? I have a lot of family living in The Netherlands so I tend to lean towards supporting them, but I go for the song primarily and that country can just adopt me for a little!
Canada has been represented by artists in the past for other nations - do you have a favourite Canadian performance?
Celine hands down, but I love Annie Cotton's terrific ballad and Natasha St-Pier's touching song.
How would you feel if the USA ended up competing in Eurovision?
I wouldn't understand USA's purpose for being there since they dominate the music industry, but if they brought great songs that enhance the contest, and showed the world a side we haven't seen of them, then I think that would be pretty awesome to see our neighbours in there.
Interesting!
What do you think of Australia being in Eurovision?
I love seeing Australia's dedication to the contest! They bring so much fun and spirit around Eurovision time. I loved hearing the Eurovision content from the Australian perspective when SBS activated their ESC player, especially when it was hosted by Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang! Miss them haha.
We miss Julia and Sam as well! :(
What do you think of our act Jessica Mauboy?
Jessica's capable to bring another great song to the contest for Australia! I love her upbeat tunes.
Sea of Flags, Tonight Again, Sound of Silence or Don’t Come Easy?
Tonight Again & Sound of Silence tie
That's cheating haha!
Thank you so much for your time!
