International fan of the week - Guillermo from Mexico

Our weekly feature of an Australian and International Fan of the Week is back for the 2019 season. We absolutely loved getting to know and share fans across the world and what they love about the contest. So let's kick off with Guillermo from Mexico.

What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Guillermo Bosque and I’m from Saltillo, Mexico.

What do you do or tell us something interesting about you?

Well I’m currently studying IT Engineering, I will graduate next year in September. I love horror movies, Marvel TV shows from Netflix, making Eurovision tops and sharing them on Twitter or my blog. My big dream is going to Eurovision every year if it’s possible, I would like to know how it feels to be there with the audience singing and dancing along to all the songs.

When did you first get into Eurovision?

It was very weird. I was subscribed to a YouTube channel from Spain, (my good friend aitorcorstop40), he uploaded a weekly Top 40 of new songs and I don’t remember how but that’s how I discovered Sanna Nielsen’s “Undo” and Paula and OVI’s “Miracle”. I loved both of them but I didn’t know those were Eurovision songs. Then, I started to discover what Eurovision was in 2016 (thanks to that same YouTube channel) and I listened to all of the studio versions of the songs of that year, that’s when I fell in love with Douwe Bob’s country masterpiece “Slow Down” but I didn’t watch the full show because I didn’t know when was it or where could I watch it. It wasn’t until 2017 where I started to be a huge fan and I watched all the live shows. The first National Final I saw was Fik 56 last year. What an interesting way to get into the contest and love that Fik was your first national final! ~ Aussievision

Which is your favourite Eurovision year and why?

It is probably 2018, because I liked 40 out of the 43 songs and Semi-final 1 was one of the best things I have witnessed in my whole life. It is by far the strongest year I’ve watched. But I also enjoyed 2005, 2009 (that stage was amazing) and 2015. 2009 and 2015 were amazing!

Which Eurovision song.... Is the best? Stop by Omar Naber, it is actually my most played song on Spotify. I love his voice so much, it is so beautifully composed and the climax is astonishing. Wow interesting choice! I don't think we'll see Omar come up again for this question again :P Is overrated? Even though the staging was great and it is not a bad song, I don’t get why so many people like Euphoria by Loreen so much, it is just another pop song to me. I would be okay if it didn’t even qualify.

Ooh controversial! Was robbed? This will be a long answer: Hear them Calling, Playing with Numbers, Blue and Red, On My Way, Quero ser Tua, Crisalide (Vola), Unbreakable, När Jag Blundar, No One, Horehronie, Lijepa Tena, Cvet z Juga and Stop (Yeah, I love Slovenia so much). From National Finals: •Saulės Kliošas - Įkvėpk Ir Nepaleisk (an under looked Lithuanian bop) •Out of the Twilight - Sara de Blue (I hope she represents Austria one day)

Had the best live performance? Hold Me by Farid Mammadov, I could honestly watch that performance countless times and never get bored of it. The level of detail and effort that was put on that performance is outstanding. The wide camera shots, the man in the box, the lady with the long dress, Farid’s huge stage presence and mind-blowing voice, all of it is perfect. It drives me absolutely crazy because everything about it is so perfect.

GREAT choice, what a live performance

Did you last play? “A Million Voices” by Polina Gagarina, that song has grew on me a lot, she’s amazing. Is your guilty pleasure? “Ninanajna” by Elena Risteska, the best Macedonian entry haha! Which countries do you tend to support in Eurovision? I always support Slovenia and Albania, probably because those countries are always so underrated by everyone and struggle to qualify. But I’m glad they did this year, Eugent Bushpepa and Lea Sirk were great (I screamed my lungs out when Eugent qualified). I also like Norway a lot.

Big fan of Albania here as well :) ~ Dale What national finals are you most looking forward to? Melodifestivalen 2019 because I want Jon Henrik Fjällgren to win it, also A Dal 2019 because Leander Kills has such a great song and they deserve to win, I am also very excited for Fik 57 because the second semifinal it’s on the same day as my birthday (December 21st) and finally I’m excited to watch Australia Decides because I love Sheppard and I’m curious to hear what Electric Fields has to offer, their songs are so unique.

Jon Henrik is one of our favourites as well, would have loved to see him win in 2017. Any prediction of what we might see in Tel Aviv this year? I think that it will be one of the most competitive editions in a long time, 2018 proved that most of the countries didn’t came to play anymore. Any other predictions? Spain and the UK will be in the bottom 5 again, FYR Macedonia still won’t qualify and Australia will be in the Top 10 again. I also hope to see either Kazakhstan or Kosovo debuting, I still have hope.

We'd be happy with top 10! What do you think of Australia being in Eurovision? I think it’s amazing because Australia has been sending four great songs in a row and it contributes more to the Eurovision Song Contest than some of the countries that are located in Europe. Tonight Again, Sound of Silence, Don’t Come Easy or We Got Love? 1. Tonight Again 2. We Got Love 3. Don’t Come Easy 4. Sound of Silence Thanks for your time Guillermo!
