50 Days until Junior Eurovision 2024: What we know so far

There are 50 days to go until the 22nd edition of Junior Eurovision so we here at Aussievision have taken a look at what we know about this year's Contest so far!

We're off to Spain!

Junior Eurovision 2024 will take place on November 16 in Madrid, Spain. This was decided after 2023's winning country France opted against hosting for two consecutive years after also winning the contest in 2022. Spain were announced as the host country after Sandra Valero took the runner-up position in 2023 with Loviu.

This will mark the first time that the contest has been held in the country, as well as the first Eurovision event hosted by Spain since the Eurovision Song Contest 1969, also held in Madrid. The show will be held at Caja Mágica and the host broadcaster is Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE).

Hosts

The show will be hosted by Ruth Lorenzo, Marc Clotet and Melani García. Lorenzo represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 and hosted Benidorm Fest 2024, while García represented Spain in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Clotet is a well known Spanish film, television and theatre actor.

Let's Bloom

As revealed earlier this month, this year's theme is 'Let's Bloom' which references the blossoming of young artists as they take the stage and perform at the event.

As Ana María Bordas at RTVE explained:

"We have thought of a concept that, taking nature as an example, influences the idea of young artists flourishing towards a future where they can be themselves and express freely in a healthy, safe and diverse way. The aim is to walk with them in their growth and development. In short, to help them flourish and progress, by being themselves. ”

Will Australia be competing?

In April of this year it was confirmed that Australia will not be competing at Junior Eurovision in 2024.

After participating for five years between 2015 to 2019, Australia will miss the competition for the fifth year in a row. Both SBS and most recent broadcaster ABC ME have no plans to participate or broadcast the contest in Australia.

Australians will still be able to watch Junior Eurovision via the official Junior Eurovision YouTube channel.

Who will be participating in the 2024 Contest?

17 countries will participate in Junior Eurovision this year. Cyprus is set to return to the contest after last competing in 2017 while San Marino is set to return after an eight-year absence. The United Kingdom is the only country from last year's contest who is not returning this year.
