Perth-based progressive rock band Voyager have released their song, 'Dreamer', that they will be competing with at 'Eurovision - Australia Decides 2022' on the Gold Coast in February.
In December 2021, Voyager revealed they had been successfully chosen as one of the artist to compete at Australia Decides.
Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, five-piece rock act Voyager will bring their unique 80's infused progressive rock sound to the Australia Decides stage. Voyager's musical style spans across multiple genres. On their website they describe themselves as:
"The genre-transfiguring act blend new-romantic and 80’s infused vocals, keytar solos, technical yet melodic fretwork, groovy bass and bombastic drumming efforts."
Lead singer and keytarist Danny Estrin spoke to Aussievision about their song release:
"The song 'Dreamer' is a very much a mixture of all the things Voyager does best. It was a challenge to condense it all into three minutes... It's got electronica, it's got the 80's pop synth, it's got a catchy chorus and of course it's got big heavy metal guitars.
"The song wasn't really written for Eurovision at all. It was produced to fit within Eurovision when we found out it has to be three minutes, but it was written pretty much as an organic Voyager song."
"Lyrically it is positive and negative at the same time. You've got the lockdown aspirations of the "grass is greener" but at the same time realising what we have around ourselves is pretty good too. So you know a lot of those things are explored in there. It's not really a lockdown song, but it kind of is. We are not through this pandemic just yet, so there is a bit of that angst and tension in there as well."
Keen admirers of Australia Decides may have noticed Voyager before. The band were shortlisted for Australia Decides 2020. A short clip of their entry 'Runaway' was played during the show. Vocalist Danny Estrin is a long-time fan of the Contest.
Voyager joins eleven other acts for the final of 'Eurovision - Australia Decides' on February 26 on the Gold Coast.
‘Voyager’ is available on iTunes and for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
