Austria: JJ’s Eurovision 2025 song Wasted Love released

JJ representing Austria at Eurovision 2025


On January 30th 2025, it was revealed on the Ö3 Wecker show on Austrian radio station Hitradio Ö3 that local broadcaster ÖRF had internally selected Johannes Pietsch (competing under his stage name JJ) to represent Austria at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.


JJ's song Wasted Love has now been released.



Wasted Love was co-written by JJ and Austrian 2023 Eurovision representative Teodora Špirić best known as being part of the duo Teya & Salena that performed their song Who the Hell is Edgar.


About JJ


JJ is a male soprano opera singer best known for appearing on The Voice UK in 2020, where he impressed the judges with his operatic vocals and whistle register. He also appeared on the Austrian TV show Starmania 21 the following year.


JJ has both Austrian and Filipino descent. He studied classical music at the Music and Art Private University of Vienna and is a member of the Vienna State Opera company with roles in productions such as Die Zauberflöte and Von der Liebe Tod.



Austria at Eurovision


Austria has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest on 56 occasions since it debuted in 1957.


They have won the Song Contest twice, in 1966 when Udo Jürgens performed Merci, Chérie and in 2014 with Conchita Wurst's iconic hit Rise Like a Phoenix.


Austria will perform in the first half of the second semi-final, along with Australia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland on Thursday, May 15.
