Can JoJo Siwa represent Poland at Eurovision 2025?

The speculation for the upcoming 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, has already started,.

The American star JoJo Siwa has been rumoured to be representing Poland at next year's Eurovision. But can she compete on the Eurovision stage next May?

Who is JoJo Siwa?

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, in the US, JoJo Siwa is a 21-year-old singer, dancer, and television personality who rose to fame in 2015 as a child star on two seasons of the reality TV show Dance Moms alongside her mother Jessalynn Siwa. JoJo's star continued to rise in 2017 as she signed to Nickelodeon and acted in various shows and films.

In 2021, JoJo Siwa came out, revealing that she is a lesbian. A few months later, she appeared in the US version of Dancing With The Stars, becoming the first celebrity to appear in a same-sex dance partnership on the show. That year, she was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in Time's annual list.

JoJo Siwa released the album Guilty Pleasure in July 2024, featuring the viral single Karma, which has spawned a TikTok dance trend and many internet memes.

What is JoJo Siwa's connection to Poland?

JoJo Siwa's song Yesterday's Tomorrow's Today, one of the album tracks from Guilty Pleasure, has been trending on TikTok in Poland. The song originally caught the attention of Polish fans for sounding like a song from the Polish music genre 'disco polo'. Some internet users commented on JoJo's posts suggesting that she should apply for Eurovision 2025 as a representative of Poland.

But why Poland? It turns out her last name is not a coincidence - JoJo Siwa has some Polish ancestry on her father's side of the family. JoJo also claims she is "over 50% Polish" and has recently travelled to Poland to promote her viral hits.

Why is JoJo Siwa rumoured to take part in next year's Eurovision Song Contest?

JoJo Siwa has taken to TikTok, expressing her desire to represent Poland at Eurovision and suggesting that she was preparing for Eurovision. In the TikTok below, she even dances the oberek, one of the national dances of Poland!

In a recent TikTok video, JoJo Siwa has responded to the rumours that she would be representing Poland at Eurovision 2025, saying:

"Somebody asked if I was going to do it [perform the song Yesterday's Tomorrow's Today] for Eurovision, and I initially jokingly replied to the comment, saying 'yes', but now it's actually become a real conversation and Eurovision's into it. We're talking with the people in Poland because each country essentially decides who goes to Eurovision to represent that country and so we have been talking with everybody. Obviously, there's a lot that goes into it, there's a lot of logistics. One of the big logistics is I have a project that I'm committed to for when Eurovision is actually happening, but I might be able to make both work, if Poland wants me to. If Poland wants me to represent, I will be there! I will make it happen, 1000%!"

Should JoJo Siwa represent Poland at Eurovision, she would not be performing Yesterday's Tomorrow's Today, as it was released before September 1st 2024 and is ineligible for the competition.

However, JoJo has suggested that she has an original song in mind for the contest, elaborating:

"Also on Eurovision, you can't do a song that's already been heard, and so I have been thinking and I did come up with an idea that I 100% would do and I can't wait! I think it'll be so freaking fun!"

So can JoJo Siwa go to Eurovision for Poland?

While the artist representing Poland at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest has not yet been confirmed by Polish broadcaster TVP, the process for selecting Poland's 2025 Eurovision act is also currently unknown. Last year's Polish artist, Luna, was internally selected by TVP, whereas in 2023, Polish singer Blanka won the televised national selection show Tu bije sercy Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję!.

However, an American singer with Polish ancestry representing Poland at Eurovision would not be unprecedented. If JoJo Siwa were to go to Eurovision, she would be the first Polish-American star to fly the Polish flag at the contest since Ochman represented the country in 2022.
