Cyprus: Theo Evan’s Eurovision 2025 song released

On 2 September 2024, Theo Evan was chosen to represent Cyprus at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel and was the very first artist of all the 37 competing countries to be selected.

This will the first time since 2017 that Cyprus has been represented by a Cypriot born artist. Theo will also be the first non-Australian-born performer since 2022.

Theo Evan’s song Shh has now been released.

There is a star-studded team behind the song. It was crafted by Greek composer and producer Dimitris Kontopoulos, one of the most renowned Eurovision contributors.

Also on the songwriting team are Lasse Nymann and Linda Dale, the creative forces behind last year’s winning Eurovision song by Nemo, The Code. 

Completing the team is Norwegian songwriter Elsie Bay, who finished in the Top 4 at Norway’s national song selection - Melodi Grand Prix in 2022 with her song Death of Us and 4th place in 2023 with Love You in a Dream.

About Theo Evan

Born in Nicosia, Cyprus – Theo Evan (original name being Evangelos Theodorou), is a 27-year-old singer-songwriter, dancer and actor.

Theo started his journey in music and dance at the age of 7 and participated in local talent shows and was in a school choir.

With singer Michael Jackson as his childhood idol, this inspired him as a teenager to write his own songs.

After graduating from The English School in Nicosia, Theo moved to the USA to study music and performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated with honors.

In 2021, he released his debut single The Wall. Theo also made an appearance as an extra in the seventh episode of the second season of the American television HBO series Euphoria.  

He then returned to his hometown Nicosia to continue his music career, after a short stay in Los Angeles, California.

Cyprus at Eurovision

Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1981 with Island performing Μόνικα’ finishing in 6th place.

Their best result was in 2018, with Eleni Foureira who performed her dance banger Fuego which came in 2nd place.

In the previous two editions of Eurovision, Australian born artists have represented Cyprus, with Andrew Lambrou finishing 12th in 2023 with Break a Broken Heart and Silia Kapsis finished in 15th place in 2024 with Liar.

Cyprus will be performing in the second half of the first semi-final at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday, May 13.
