Next weekend Denmark will run their annual national final, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.
11 Aussievision contributors have listened to the eight Danish songs and ranked their top six favourite songs using a scale of 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 votes.
This year Tim Schou, formerly of A Friend in London makes his return as a solo artist. A Friend in London placed 5th in 2011 with the song New Tomorrow.
Bookies have Sissal with Hallucination as the odds-on favourite to book their ticket for Basel.
Let's take a look at what the Aussievision team thought of the Danish songs and see if they agree...
8. Hervé Toure – Allez allez (26 points)
Highs: 10 points from Liv.
Lows: 2 points from Sam, Tim and Dale;, Joel 0 points from Jamie, Fleur, Kiel and Emma.
"An interesting entry - it's right in the wheelhouse of what Denmark usually produces but with a more tropical beat. Once you remove the beat it sounds similar to every other DMGP entry. I love the Danish language and have been lucky to listen to it for years with my family, I'd love to see it represented at Eurovision again." ~ Liv
7. Max Ulver – Supernova (36 points)
Highs: 10 points from Sam; 8 points from Liv.
Lows: 2 points from Hayley; 0 points from Jamie, Fleur, Kiel, Tim and Emma.
"The theme song of Latvia’s Eurovision national selection in Denmark? Jokes aside I love the depth the strings add to the chorus – combining classical elements to this strong pop tune. Dark horse of the competition." ~ Sam
6. Andreas Kruse – Hear My Prayer (52 points)
Highs: 12 points from Liv and Emma; 8 points from Tim.
Lows: 4 points from Fleur and Kiel; 0 points from John Christian, Joel, Hayley and Dale.
"I think this is just within the comfort zone of Danes to vote for it and send something slightly more edgy than their usual offerings. Andreas has the best vocal range on studio and this has a good contemporary sensibility about it. Unless another entry has slap-you-in-the-face good staging, this is Denmark's best option for Eurovision." ~ Liv
""Denmark's best chance of making it to the final in Basel lies with Andreas Kruse. He has a great voice & you could do a lot with this visually. They should really ramp up the gospel theme as this is what sets it apart from the other DMGP entries. And we have nothing else like it selected for Basel so far.
"" ~ Emma
5. Maria Mathea – Air (54 points)
Highs: 12 points from John Christian; 8 points from Jamie.
Lows: 0 points from Sam, Hayley, Liv and Dale.
"Out of all the songs in this national final, this is somewhat of a curveball. I think it has the potential to lift Denmark out of misery from three consecutive years of bad luck and poor song selection." ~ John Christian
4. Mariya – I Belong To Me (56 points)
Highs: 10 points from John Christian; 8 points from Hayley and Kiel.
Lows: 4 pints from Sam, Joel and Tim; 2 points from Jamie, Fleur and Emma.
"This is more "American Idol"-coded and I think this is very powerful. If this could save Denmark's fading star of qualification, it has to be this emotional power ballad, and if there's anyone who could criticize this, you can argue me. There's nothing else to say but a very beautiful banger." ~ John Christian
3. Tim Schou – Proud (62 points)
Highs: 12 points from Tim; 10 points from Fleur and Dale.
Lows: 2 points from John Christian, Liv and Kiel; 0 points from Joel.
"Now I understand I’m probably in the minority here, but I really enjoy this song. It has a brilliant melody that is simple and sweet and enjoyable. I think the lyrics really stuck with me and I think the tone of the song altogether is just fantastic. Yes, I acknowledge that this is more beige from Denmark who delivers more safety in Eurovision than a Volvo ad but there is certainly something different here. Would be delighted if we saw this May" ~ Tim
"This is fine and we know that Tim Schou can perform. The song itself is competent but with some clever staging it could do reasonably well. Right now, Denmark needs to concentrate in qualifying for the final. This is one of their best options." ~ Fleur
"I know this is SO Danish and tweet and vanilla but it's a well-constructed little pop song with a semi-good message. It's very turn of the decade 2010s with some slight 80s Boys of Summer-type moments." ~ Dale
2. Adel the Second – The Unluckiest Boy Alive (66 points)
Highs: 12 points from Fleur, Joel; 10 points from Jamie and Hayley.
Lows: 4 points from Emma; 0 points from John Christian, Sam, Tim and Liv.
"This is the song that stays with me the most from this selection. Adel 's vocals is something that I noticed straight away. The song is very catchy and has a great beat. It's a pleasant banger. Can always count on Denmark for sending something pleasant, I guess." ~ Fleur
"This definitely isn’t a traditional Eurovision competition song, but it gets my 12 points for its interesting and lush vocal quirks, along with an enjoyable beat. I don’t see Denmark getting out of the semis with any of these entries unfortunately." ~ Joel
"The instrumentals with the great vocals really make this song grow on me. If there is to be an upset winner of MGP, this is the one." ~ Jamie
"There's nothing too original here, but, for some reason I feel like the public might go for it, mainly for its upbeat chorus." ~ Kiel
1. Sissal – Hallucination (110 points)
Highs: 12 points from Jamie, Sam, Hayley, Kiel, Dale and Emma; 10 points from Joel and Tim.
Lows: 4 points from Liv.
"This song will win Dansk MGP!!! Such a dance banger and it gives me so much Loreen vibes. Denmark - please send this to Eurovision." ~ Jamie
"A Copenhagen club banger! Yes a little dated and generic. But a total ear worm and given the song theme I think there is the potential for awesome staging. The second half of the second semi-final is already stacked with female up-tempo songs – think Finland, Malta and Luxembourg. But let’s add to the party! If she can sing this live this should see Denmark qualify for the first time in the 2020s." ~ Sam
"In another year of uninspiring entries from Denmark, this is the one that has half a pulse. It's got a bit of Aldi-lite rave going on, and Sissal's vocals are pretty sharp. Their best chance at that Eurovision grand final spot that's eluded them for several years in a row now." ~ Kiel
"Clearly the best song in here by a long way. An absolute banger but I'm going to be interested to see how she performs this live. Those big moments in the last 30 seconds are super important to make it a competitive Eurovision entry." ~ Dale
"This could be great visually and is a fairly decent studio track. Sissal has a great voice but with so many other female pop bangers already in this year's competition it could get swallowed up if it makes it to Basel." ~ Emma
"I don’t particularly like the song, but something has to get my 10 points. I’ve listened to it four times in a row, yet I still can’t remember a single thing about it—aside from the fact that it was slightly better than most of Denmark’s other offerings this year." ~ Joel
"A bit more of generic Scandinavian pop but this holds up. It has a great sound to it and I think it takes just big enough of a risk to stand out in the line up. I see why it’s favoured amongst the others but I think it would need a big onstage performance to get itself to the final in Basel" ~ Tim
"Look, I like this but it is too similar to Sand (Winner, 2024). The constant repetition of the word "hallucination" in the chorus, to finding cliqué phrases that rhyme. Melanie Webhe co-wrote both songs which explains some of the similarity. A solid song for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, but it is too soon for my liking." ~ Fleur
As you can see, the Aussievision team overwhelmingly agrees with the bookmakers.
