Did the EBU just confirm that Kant can compete in Eurovision 2025?

The EBU has posted on its website and social media that Kant will compete for Malta at Eurovision 2025.

This morning, Miriana Conte won the Malta Song Contest (MESC) to earn the right to represent the nation at Eurovision 2025.

The one issue fans and commentators have been worried about, is the lyrics of her song.

The song Kant features these lyrics:

Let down your walls, come and dance to my vibe

I do it all the time, I do it all the time

Yeah, I do it all the time

Do, re, mi, fa, s-s-serving kant

Do, re, mi, fa, s-s-serving kant

It's a play on words as kant means singing in Maltese, but it sounds like a very similar and quite controversial word in English.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which organises Eurovision takes a hard line on profanities and has forced other songs to change their lyrics.

However, since the word in Maltese is not a profanity, it may have just been given the green light.

Eurovision announces Kant's participation

Following Miriana's win, the Eurovision website and social media posted this statement:

"Miriana Conte has won 'Malta Eurovision Song Contest' and will represent the country at Basel 2025 with the song 'Kant' ('Singing')."

This appears to show that it's good to go but perhaps with the clarification that it is (Singing).

Questionable / problematic songs on the past have not been added to the Eurovision site or posted on social media.

Malta will perform in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025 in Basel. This is the same semi-final as Australia.
