"Diva NOT down" - Miriana Conte reacts to ban of the word 'Kant' at Eurovision 2025

Maltese Eurovision artist Miriana Conte has just revealed on her social media that the EBU has forbidden the Maltese word 'Kant', which means 'singing' in English, from appearing in the lyrics of her Eurovision entry.

Maltese news outlet TVM reported that the EBU's Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group had previously informed Maltese Eurovision broadcaster PBS that the Maltese word 'kant' could be used in the song's lyrics and title.

However, following a report to the Eurovision Reference Group by an EBU member "understood to be the BBC", the EBU has now requested that the song's title be changed and the word 'kant' be entirely removed from the lyrics.

TVM has also reported that PBS is "considering all the steps it can take" after being asked to communicate a decision within two days before the EBU's 10th March deadline for Eurovision song submissions.

Miriana Conte took to social media to reveal that she was filming the official music video for her Eurovision entry when she received the news of the EBU's decision.

The Maltese Eurovision artist said:

"While I'm shocked and disappointed, especially since we have less than a week to submit the song, I promise you this: the show will go on - Diva NOT down."

Miriana Conte's performance of her Eurovision 2025 entry at this year's edition of the Maltese national selection show Malta Eurovision Song Contest is still available on the Eurovision YouTube channel.

Malta is set to perform in the second half of the second semi-final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, on 15th May 2025.
