We profile the 2025 entry from Estonia including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
Always bringing a bit of Baltic flair, Estonia has participated in Eurovision on 29 occasions since making its debut in 1994. They managed to go all the way within a decade of debuting when Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL won with their pop-funk song Everybody at the 2001 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Apart from their 2001 triumph, their next best result came the following year in 2002, when Sahlene finished third place with Runaway on home turf in Tallinn. Over the past decade, Estonia has had three Top 10 finishes - the best being Elina Born and Stig Rästa's Goodbye to Yesterday which finished in seventh place in Vienna in 2015.
Estonia has qualified for the Grand Final in the past three contests, and this year will be represented by one of the country's biggest rap and pop artists, Tommy Cash.

About the artist
Born Tomas Tammemets, Tommy Cash is a rapper, singer, dancer and visual artist, and is best known for his provocative and genre-blending songs. He first started making music in 2012 and got his big breakthrough in 2016 with his viral video for his track Winaloto - which has had more than 16 million views. Some of his other big tracks include the risqué Pussy Money Weed, Benz-Dealer and Ferrari. He has developed a cult following in his homeland and other parts of Eastern Europe, and his music often features sexually explicit themes and surreal visuals, challenging conventional norms.
Aside from music, Tommy Cash also been heavily involved in the art, modelling and fashion scenes - even releasing his own pair of one-metre-long shoes with Adidas back in 2021. He's performed at some of the biggest festivals in the world including Glastonbury and Tomorrowland and has done numerous collaborations with other artists including Charli XCX, Diplo and Boyz Noise.
Cash first appeared on Eurovision fans' radar when he featured with Finland's 2023 runner-up Käärijä on his first single post contest, It's Crazy It's Party. Earlier this year Cash teamed up with the Netherlands' Joost Klein for the track United by Music.
About the song
With a chorus that reads: "Mi amore, mi amore, Espresso macchiato, macchiato, macchiato, Por favore, por favore, Espresso macchiato corneo..." you'd be forgiven if you initially thought this was Italy's entry for the 2025 Contest. The remainder of the lyrics are mostly in English but with an Italian hook to them.
First verse:
Ciao bella (Hi beatuiful), I'm Tomaso (Tommy)
Addicted to tobacco
Mi like mi coffee very importante
No time to talk e scusi
My days are very busy
And I just own this little ristorante
Life may give you lemons
When dancing with the demons
No stresso, no stresso
No need to be depresso
Cash wrote the song with Finnish producer Johannes Naukkarinen, known for his work on Käärijä's 2023 runner-up hit Cha Cha Cha. The song has stood out to fans not just for its jazzy elements in the verses and the more poppy chorus, but also for Tommy's spaghetti-like dancing on stage. With playful references to the mafia and other Italian cultural stereotypes, it generated quite a stir in Italy, and local consumer association Codacons called for the song to be banned. They questioned whether it is appropriate “to allow a song that offends a country and an entire community”. Cash played down the seriousness of the song in an interview on Italian radio, telling listeners "I love Italy and have the utmost respect for the country."
Cash first released the song back in early December with a very simple 'visualiser' video of him drinking coffee, and it has racked up more than 10 million views. At the time of writing, the 'official video' for Espresso Macchiato has more than 3.3 million views and is the fourth most viewed of all 37 entries on the Eurovision 2025: Official Music Videos YouTube playlist, behind only the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden.
How was Tommy Cash chosen for Eurovision?
Cash earned his ticket to Basel by winning Estonia's national selection competition Eesti Laul in February. He was from the start, considered to be one of the hot favourites from the moment he announced his participation.
With the format of Eesti Laul changing this year and semi-finals scrapped, Cash competed against 15 other artists in the final. He topped the leaderboard following votes from an international jury and the public and progressed to the super final of the top three acts.
The super final was voted entirely by the public and Cash won in a landslide with 83% of the vote, ahead of fellow finalists Andrei Zevakin feat. Karita and Ann-Marlen.
Pre-party performance
Cash is currently doing the rounds for the Eurovision Pre-Party circuit and has continued to make a splash. Here he is in Amsterdam for Eurovision In Concert on 5 April 2025.
