Eurovision 2023: Catherine Martin announced as Australian spokesperson

Four-time Oscar winner and legendary costume designer Catherine Martin has been revealed as the spokesperson for Australia at the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final.


SBS made the announcement on the morning of May 10 Australia time.


Martin is best known for the being the Australian with the most Academy Awards. She won her first two Oscars for 'Moulin Rouge!' in 2002 and another two for 'The Great Gatsby' in 2014. She is married to well-known Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, and has worked on several films with him.


In a statement Catherine was enthusiastic about presenting the results of the Australian jury.


"I am excited to be the spokesperson for Australia at this year's Eurovision Song Contest."


"Since my first memories of ABBA exploding onto the stage and becoming the worldwide phenomenon they are, I have been obsessed, not only with the extraordinary celebration of music and songwriting but also with the inspiration, staging, costuming, and lighting."


"Eurovision celebrates not only musical excellence but the presentation of music, in visually extraordinary ways."

Catherine will present the results of the Australian jury Sunday morning Australian time, or Saturday evening in Europe.


The names of the five-member Australian jury have yet to be revealed. This year due to a change in the voting system their votes will only count in the Grand Final.


The Eurovision 2023 Grand Final will take place this Saturday 13th May at 9.00pm CET or Sunday 14th May 5:00 am AEST. Australians will be able to watch the broadcast on SBS or SBS On Demand.
