We profile the 2025 entry from Cyprus including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
Cyprus made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1981 with Island performing Μόνικα finishing in 6th place.
Over the decades the "Island of Love" has managed to reach fifth place three times at Eurovision: firstly in 1982 with Anna Vissi’s Μόνο η αγάπη, secondly in 1997 with Hara & Andreas Constantinou Μάνα μου, and then again in 2004 with Lisa Andreas’ power ballad Stronger Every Minute.
It wouldn’t be until 2018 when Cyprus would get its best ever result when Eleni Foureira stormed the Contest with her runner-up placed epic banger Fuego.
Since 2015, Cyprus has managed to qualify for the Eurovision Final every year except for 2022. The previous two years the small island nation was represented by Australian artists with Cypriot roots, Andrew Lambrou in 2023 and Silia Kapsis in 2024.
In 2025, Cyprus will be represented by Theo Evan, who will be hoping to continue his country's strong streak of results with his song Shh.

About the Artist
Theo was born in Nicosia to a Greek-Cypriot family. Since seven-years-old, Theo has been a singer and dancer spending his time in dance classes and partaking in a school choir. This led him to performing in theatre productions and talent shows throughout Cyprus.
As an adult Theo moved to the United States to study music at the well-recognised Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. During his music career he has shared the stage with greats such as Pharrell Williams, John Legend and Justin Timberlake.
He released his debut single in 2021, The Wall, which he wrote himself. Theo has since released half a dozen singles. His music style features a blend of Mediterranean pop, dark-gritty tones and a fresh contemporary pop fusion.
In 2022, Theo appeared as an extra in the second season of the US hit show Euphoria. Not long after, Theo returned to Cyprus to focus on his music.
Back in January 2025, Theo performed at the Greek Eurovision national final, Ethinkos Telikos 2025, held in Athens, where he performed Fuego which he also released as a single.
About the Song
Shh is written and composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Elke Tiel, Elsie Bay, Lasse Nymann, and Linda Dale, with several being very familiar names in the Eurovision world.
The most notable of the songwriting team is Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos. Shh is Dimitris' 15th Eurovision entry he has worked on. His last previous entry was at the 2024 Contest where he co-wrote Liar, along with Elke Tiel, for Cyprus sung by Australia's Silia Kapsis.
The other notable person on the team is Elsie Bay. This is her first Eurovision entry after co-writing eight Eurovision pre-selection entries for Norway, Germany and Luxembourg. Elsie has also previously competed in Norway's Melodi Grand Prix twice (2022 and 2023).
On CyBC, the Cypriot broadcaster, morning show, Omorfi Mera (Beautiful Day), Theo revealed that the song Shh is about a secret that will be fully revealed on the Basel Eurovision stage. The performance will include high quality visuals with a departure from the typical Eurovision staging with a singer and back up dancers.
Theo co-directed the Shh music video showcasing his talent for blending music and visuals.
How was Theo chosen for Eurovision?
For this year's Contest CyBC opted for an internally selected artist based in Cyprus. A focus group composed of music professionals and Eurovision experts made the selection.
Theo was revealed as the Cypriot artist in September 2024 making the first artist reveal of the Eurovision 2025 season. He is the first artist born in Cyprus since 2017 to represent the small island nation.
Cyprus will compete in the first semi-final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 13 May 2025 in Basel.
