We profile the 2025 entry from Czechia including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

After making its Eurovision debut in 2007, Czechia struggled to make an impact and ultimately withdrew from the contest just two years later following a disappointing result in 2009.

However, the nation made a triumphant return in 2015 and has since grown into something of an underdog favourite among Eurovision fans.

While Czechia has yet to secure a win, they’ve managed to land two impressive top 10 finishes since their comeback: Mikolas Josef’s infectious Lie to Me in 2018 (6th place), and Vesna’s empowering My Sister’s Crown in 2023 (10th place).

Despite these successes, Czechia’s journey hasn’t always been smooth - the country has only qualified for the Grand Final in 5 out of the last 9 editions.

Now, hopes are high once again as Czechia looks to secure another spot in the final at Eurovision 2025 in Basel. Representing the nation this year is Adonxs with his song Kiss Kiss Goodbye.

You can find out more about Adonxs and his song below!

About the artist

Adam Pavlovčin, known professionally as Adonxs, was born in Myjava, Slovakia, and spent his childhood in the western part of the country. From an early age, he showed a passion for the performing arts, joining a junior dance crew, taking singing lessons, and learning to play the piano.

Though he stepped away from singing during his teenage years to focus on dance, Adonxs went on to win multiple Slovak Championships in the street dance discipline. At 15, he moved with his family to Bratislava, where he eventually rekindled his love for music.

This led him to Prague, where he pursued classical opera training, and later to London, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Songwriting and Creative Musicianship—graduating with first-class honours from BIMM University.

Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Adonxs returned to Prague from London and quickly rose to national fame after winning the Czech-Slovak edition of SuperStar. He made history as the first openly queer winner of the series.

Since then, Adonxs has signed with Warner Music and released a string of successful singles that have charted in both Czechia and Slovakia. In 2022, he released his debut studio album Age of Adonxs, which earned a nomination for the prestigious Anděl Award for Best Slovak Album.

About the song

Described as a song about heartbreak, emotional abandonment, and the strength it takes to move on, Kiss Kiss Goodbye is deeply inspired by Adonxs' own life experiences.

He describes it as “an unexpected aesthetic, but above all, a strong story with unexpected twists that reveals something real and honest from my own heart.”

While the song initially presents itself as a classic Eurovision ballad, it quickly evolves, blending elements of dance-techno, gothic choir, and operatic flourishes.

Kiss Kiss Goodbye was co-written by Adonxs alongside Adriano Lopes da Silva, Ines Coulon, and Michaela Charvátová, with production by George Masters-Clark, Lorenzo Calvo, and Ronald Janeček.

The entry was first performed at the Maltese national final Malta Song Contest as an acoustic version. In our interview with Adonxs, the song in it's final 'upbeat' form wasn't ready and performing a more low-key version in Malta was a 'bold' move that he found exciting.

How Claude was chosen for Eurovision?

Since 2018, Czechia has embraced a national selection format known as ESCZ. Despite undergoing several changes in format over the years, ESCZ quickly became a fan-favourite among national finals, thanks to its fresh approach and strong entries.

However, for the 2025 Eurovision season, Czech broadcaster ČT announced a shift away from the public national final. Instead, the selection of their Eurovision act was made internally.

During the submission period, Czech performers were invited to express their interest in representing the country. The final decision was made through a multi-stage process, which included input from a ten-member international jury of music professionals and former Eurovision artists, a demoscopic panel of 900 members from three different countries, and a final focus group round.

In December 2024, ČT revealed that Adonxs had been selected to represent Czechia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel. His song, Kiss Kiss Goodbye, was officially released on March 7.
