Denmark and Eurovision go together like sequins and spotlights. Since making their debut in 1957, the Danes have notched up three glorious wins: in 1963 with Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann’s Dansevise, in 2000 with the infectiously feel-good Fly on the Wings of Love by the Olsen Brothers, and most recently in 2013 when Emmelie de Forest became an ESC icon stealing the show with Only Teardrops.
In recent years, Denmark has had a bit of a rollercoaster ride at Eurovision—some solid entries, some unexpected non-qualifications—but one thing remains true: they know how to send a song that sticks.
And this year? Denmark has something truly special up its sleeve.
Enter: Sissal.

About the artist
Not just a rising star—Sissal is a force of Nordic nature.
Born and raised in the Faroe Islands, her musical talent was clear from a young age, winning the Nósa Barnaprix singing competition at just 10 years old with her catchy tune Summarið er komið—she was just born to shine.
Now a mum of two girls and a vocal powerhouse with a successful music career to boot... and, you know, she's also just casually studying to become a teacher on the side.
Sissal has cited Norwegian singer Dagny and Swedish artist Robyn as significant influences on her music. These inspirations shine through her blend of pop sensibilities and electronic elements, crafting a sound that honours these influences adding bold vocals to make compelling listening.
Sissal’s debut EP, Hear Me Now, released in early 2025, marks her radio-worthy blend of dream-pop, electronic, and indie influences. Tracks like Deep End and Far From Sober exploring themes of vulnerability and self-discovery with emotional depth.
The collection highlights her haunting vocals, layered production, and cinematic arrangements. Hear Me Now has earned praise for its atmospheric sound and introspective lyrics.
With Hallucination, Sissal is stepping onto her biggest stage yet.
About the song
Before Eurovision, Sissal was best known for her introspective lyrics and atmospheric soundscapes, drawing comparisons to artists like Aurora, London Grammar, and Agnes Obel. But with Hallucination, she’s taking things to another level.
An epic homage that salutes its eurodance and EDM roots, Hallucination injects new oomph into the genre.
A dark electro-pop ballad with cinematic undertones, it lures you in with a hypnotic beat, pulsing bass, and layered vocals that just scream... DANCE. The lyrics explore the feeling of losing yourself in a dreamlike state—where love, memories, and reality blur together.
The song has wracked up 1.7 million streams on Spotify and 780,000 views on YouTube.
It was written by Sissal, alongside Chris Rohde-Frisk, Lina Spangsberg, Linnea Deb, Malthe Johansen, Marcus Winther-John , and Melanie Gabriella Hayrapetian. Those are some big names in Eurovision songwriting, with Deb one of the writers of winning song Heroes by Måns Zelmerlöw and Hayrapetian cowriting Sand by Saba, just to name drop a couple.
How was Sissal chosen for Eurovision?
Denmark's Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (DMGP) 2025 was nothing short of a musical rollercoaster, culminating in a nail-biting finale that kept us on the edge of our seats.
DMGP 2025 featured eight stellar acts vying for the top honour. After the initial performances, a combination of jury and public votes propelled three standout artists into the superfinal:
Sissal with Hallucination
Tim Schou with Proud
Adel the Second with The Unluckiest Boy Alive.
In the superfinal, the competition intensified. Sissal emerged victorious on a razor thin margin with a total of 38 points, narrowly edging out Tim Schou, who garnered 37 points. The breakdown was as follows:
Sissal – Hallucination: 20 points from the jury, 18 from the public
Tim Schou – Proud: 14 points from the jury, 23 from the public
Adel the Second – The Unluckiest Boy Alive" 16 points from the jury, 9 from the public.
So, is Denmark heading for a fourth Eurovision victory? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Sissal will have all of Europe hallucinating! Denmark will compete in the second Semi-Final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 15 May 2025 in Basel.
