We profile the 2025 entry from Georgia, including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction, and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
Georgia made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Over the last 15 participations they have reached the final eight times.
They have reached the top 10 on two occasions, both finishing in 9th place. The first time was in 2010 in Oslo, Norway, with Sopho Nizharadze’s Shine and the second time was in 2011 when Eldrine performed One More Day in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Georgia was on a six song non-qualification streak before Nutsa Buzaladze came to the rescue at last year's contest with Firefighter - propelling the nation to 21st in the Grand Final with her red-hot performance. Can Mariam Shengelia keep the good fortunes going?

About the Artist
22-year-old Mariam Shengelia gained national recognition by participating in X Factor Georgia in 2018 as a 14-year-old where she reached the semi-finals.
In 2019, Mariam continued to make strides in her music career by competing in Georgian Idol where she finished in sixth place. At the time, Georgian Idol was the artist selection process for their Eurovision 2020 representative with the eventual winner being Tornike Kipiani.
She already has a link to Eurovision as she provided backing vocals to the 2020 Georgian Eurovision song, Tornike Kipiani's Take Me As I Am which unfortunately never made it to the stage of Eurovision.
Mariam's musical journey also includes her participation in the 2021 edition of The Voice Georgia, and then in 2024 she participated in Dancing with the Stars.
About the Song
Freedom is performed in both Georgian and English and is written by Keti Gabisiani, with lyrics by Buka Kartozia.
The music video for the entry was directed by Kakha Bukhrashvili, with costume design by Iza Nadareishvili. Iza also designed current Junior Eurovision winner Andria Putkaradze's outfit - who represented Georgia at Junior Eurovision 2024.
The composition of the song harks back to 2000s Eurovision with distinct and unusual strong structure, time signature changes and with an orchestra.
Georgia is a powerhouse at Junior Eurovision, claiming the most wins since the inception of the contest - Freedom channels the soaring vocals and simplistic messaging that has served them well at the Junior contest for years.
How was Mariam Shengelia chosen for Eurovision?
On 14 March 2025 Georgian broadcaster GPB announced Mariam Shengelia as their representative for Eurovision 2025, this made her one of the last few reveals of the season. She was chosen via internal selection.
The song Freedom was selected from 38 entries submitted to the broadcaster and the music video was made available on the official Eurovision YouTube channel at the time of Mariam's announcement.
Georgia will compete in semi-final 2 of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 15 May 2025 in Basel.
