We profile the 2025 entry from Germany including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

The long time Eurovision stalwart returns for its 68th attempt at the contest, having only missed the 1996 edition. After a torrid time in the last few years, Germany has hit some recent good form last year with Isaak singing 'Always On The Run' in Malmo last May. The song finished a respectable 12th with 117 points, ending a poor run of bottom 5 finishes going back to 2019.

Previously, Germany has won twice with Nicole singing Ein bißchen Frieden in 1982 and Lena singing Satellite in 2010.

This year, Germany is being represented with Baller by Abor &Tynna

About the Artists

Abor and Tynna are a duo consisting of Attila and Tünde Bornemisza. This brother and sister duo have been writing songs together for the last 9 years and have built a carrer in the music industry.

Their parents are both of Hungarian ancestry and have grown up in Vienna where their father performed a part of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. Both Attila and Tünde have received classical music training with Attila taking on the cello and Tünde playing the flute.

In 2016, the pair created their first song together and uploaded it to Soundcloud. After their mother shared it online, the sibilings were contacted by a music producer and more songs were released shortly afterwards. Abor & Tynna recieved an invitation to participate in an internal selection process for Austria around 2020. However, the pair felt inexperienced for the process and declined the invitation.

About the Song

Baller is the song that Abor and Tynna are competing with at Eurovision after winning the German National Final Chefsache ESC 2025 – Wer singt für Deutschland?

The song is an upbeat electronic dance banger and is the first song completely sung in German by Germany since their 1998 entry.

The title translates to Shoot and in speaking to German broadcaster NDR, the pair answer what the song was about and the context behind its creation:

"Baller was born after a long week of writing melancholic breakup songs. We thought, enough with the sad vibes, let’s process the story in an uplifting and almost positive way. Abor then suggested using vocal chops as a kind of instrument, and quickly the line “I’m balalala holes in the night” was born. So the song is about newfound freedom after a relationship.”

How the song got selected

Baller was selected for Germany for this year's Eurovision from the national final Chefsache ESC 2025 – Wer singt für Deutschland?

Abor & Tynna was one of 24 competitors in the two heats in which competitors performed a cover song to sing. Abor & Tynna performed Skyfall by Adele. They then progressed to the Semi Final and performed Baller for the first time.

In the final, Abor & Tynna competed 6th out of 9 in the running order, and perfomed both Baller and a cover of Bang Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) by Cher. They advanced to the Superfinal and came first in the SMS and the online votes and finished second in phone votes.

Germany will compete in the Grand Final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 17 May 2025 in Basel.
