We profile the 2025 entry from Greece including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

Greece made their Eurovision debut in 1974, the year that ABBA won.

Over the decades Greece has had varying degrees of success until 2001 when Greece finished in third place for the very first time with Antique’s (I Would) Die For You.

Following 2001, Greece managed to stay in the Top 10 for most of the decade, which included their first win in 2005 with Helena Paparizou’s My Number One.

The last 10 years Greece has finished in the Top 10 twice but has also failed to qualify for the Grand Final three times.

Last year Marina Satti represented Greece with ZARI and just missed out on a Top 10 finishing in 11th place.

In Basel, Klavdia would be hoping to get Greece their second win or a least see a return to the Top 10!

About the Artist

Klavdia Papadopoulou, who goes by just Klavdia, started off her music career at just 15-years-old when she auditioned for the fifth season of Greece's Got Talent in 2017, where she performed Michael Jackson's song Billie Jean.

The following year she competed in the fifth season of The Voice of Greece. Her performance of the band Police's hit single Roxanne earned her praise from all the judges and she ended up in Helena Paparizou's team. Klavdia progressed through the show just missing out on qualifying for the final three.

Her experiences on the talent shows led to her being signed to the Greek record labels Arcade Music and Panik Records where she began releasing her own music.

In 2022 Klavdia applied to represent Greece at Eurovision 2023 with the song Holy Water, but missed out on the opportunity as Victor Vernicos was selected to go to Liverpool.

Klavdia released her self-titled debut EP in 2024 which featured four songs which to date have collectively amassed over 13 million streams on Spotify.

Klavdia’s glasses have become her trademark where similarities have been made with Greek singer and politician Nana Mouskouri.

About the Song

Klavdia co-wrote Asteromata with Arcade, the songwriters include Dimitris Beltsos, Egion Parreniasi, Gabriel Russell, Loukas Damianakos and Pavlos Manolis.

The song is a heartfelt tribute to Greek and other refugees, exploring the enduring connection between displaced people and their homeland, a bond that remains unbroken no matter where they are.

Through metaphorical dialogue between a mother and her missing child, the lyrics convey deep emotion and personal resonance, drawing inspiration from the genocide and displacement of the Pontic Greek, a history especially meaningful to Klavdia, who is of Pontic Greek descent.

With its poignant message, the song honours those who were forced to flee their homes, offering a powerful expression of hope, resilience, and remembrance.

How was Klavdia chosen for Eurovision?

After an eight-year absence, Greece's Eurovision national final made its return. Klavdia was one of 12 participants in Ethnikos Telikos 2025 held at the Christmas Theatre in Athens.

The show was hosted by Eurovision 2005 winner Helena Paparizou and former Eurovision artist and heartthrob Sakis Rouvas.

Klavdia went into the competition as one of the favourites. She went on to finish in first place in the overall vote of the international juries and the public televote earning her a spot to represent Greece in Basel.

Greece will compete in the second semi-final of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest on 15 May 2025 in Basel.
