Gabry Ponte representing San Marino at Eurovision 2025

We profile the 2025 entry from San Marino including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction, and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

The last Eurovision debutant on mainland Europe before Australia, San Marino participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2008, with the exceptions being in 2009 and 2010 due to financial difficulties and in 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic.

The microstate has participated 14 times in its history, yet qualified for the Grand Final three times: 2014 with Maybe by Valentina Monetta, 2019 with Say Na Na Na with Serhat, and 2021 with Adrenalina by Senhit featuring Flo Rida.

In recent years, the three most recent entries for this microstate ended up failing to qualify, with 2022's Stripper by Sanremo participant Achile Lauro finishing 14th in their Semi-Final, 2023's Like an Animal by The Piqued Jacks joining in the list of Eurovision entries who ended up getting the infamous 'nul points' in any show, and 2024's 11:11 by Benidorm Fest participant Megara finishing 14th in their Semi-Final.

Despite not winning or finishing inside the Top 10 for the microstate, they hope to change their fortunes in the latter half of the decade with Gabry Ponte.

The hit topped the charts worldwide, sold over 8 million copies, and won the European Music Award for Best Italian Artist in the World. He went on to credit remixes of popular songs such as Gianni Togni's Giulia and O-Zone's Dragostea din tei before leaving the band in 2005 to pursue solo works.

His first connection with the Eurovision Song Contest came in 2022, when he co-wrote and produced the Austrian entry Halo by LUM!X and Pia Maria, which ended up finishing 15th in the first semi-final, and ultimately, failed to qualify.

His most recent club releases were collaborations with Blasterjaxx, Justus, DJs From Mars, Vini Vici and official remixes for Sigala, Sam Feldt and David Guetta with his own take on global hit I'm Good.

About the song

Translated as 'All of Italy', Tutta l'Italia mixes elements of traditional Italian music, such as the accordion and tambourine, with modern electronic beats, creating a dance sound with a hint of folklore that represents the different facets of Italy.

It is almost as if it were a cross-section of the country, an ideal scenario in which the sacred and the profane, tradition and the desire for transgression coexist. In a few verses, he paints a lively picture of Italian life, where the carefree nature of the evenings intertwines with the cultural contradictions typical of the country.

In terms of commercial performance, at the time of its writing, it garnered almost 5.8 million streams since its release on Spotify, and was used as the official theme song for the 75th Sanremo Music Festival.

How was he chosen for Eurovision?

Gabry Ponte was one of the nine prequalified entries in the Grand Final of the San Marino Song Contest and ended up being chosen as the winner of on 8 March 2025, beating 19 other finalists such as last year's Albanian Eurovision entrant Besa, Italian DJ Boosta, and big-name singer Bianca Atzei.
