We profile the 2025 entry from Slovenia including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.

Slovenia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 29 times since making its debut as an independent country in 1993.

They have never won the competition but have achieved a best result of seventh in both the 1995 contest with Darja Švajger and the 2001 contest with Nuša Derenda. They therefore come into the 2025 competition hungry for their first victory, and to be the first Balkan country to win the Contest since Serbia in 2007.

In 2025, Slovenia will be represented in Basel by Klemen with his song How Much Time Do We Have Left.

About the Artist

Klemen, known outside of music as Klemen Slakonja, is an actor, singer, comedian, television host and musician. He has studied at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana. He was employed at the Ljubljana Slovene National Drama Theatre as an actor between 2010 and 2018.

He came to prominence in his native Slovenia on local radio platforms, using his acting skills to develop satirical characters based on Slovenian politicians. He then moved on to hosting comedy shows throughout Slovenia and the Balkans throughout the 2010's. This also included hosting Slovenia's Eurovision selection program EMA in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020. He was also the spokesperson for Slovenia who delivered the country's points at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf.

Klemen is probably most famous for satirical musical parodies of prominent celebrities and political figures. These have include impressions of Pope Francis, Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel, many of which have gathered over 80 million views on Youtube. Klemen first brought his talent for impersonation to Eurovision in 2020, when he performed an interval act at EMA recreating ever Slovenian entry ever. More recently, he did a similar video recreating every Eurovision winner since 2000.

About the Song

The song How Much Time Do We Have Left was written by Klemen himself and produced by Maja Slatinsek and Ryan Small. It was released on the 25 January this year.

The song is very personal for Klemen, as it deals with the period of time in which his wife, well-known Slovenian actress Mojca Fatur, was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, an extremely rare form of cancer that impacts the bone marrow. Despite initially receiving a diagnosis suggesting the disease was incurable, Mojca would later make a full recovery.

A gentle ballad, the song aims to celebrate life and to demonstrate how fragile human life can be. For Klemen, it is also a reflection on the strength of his wife and the importance of spending time with loved ones.

How was Klemen chosen for Eurovision?

Afte a two-year hiatus during which Slovenian band Joker Out and opera singer Raiven were internally selected, RTVSLO decided to return to selecting their entry for Eurovision 2025 through EMA, their national final format.

Klemen submitted his song and was ultimately among the 12 participants successfully selected to participate. After initially competing alongside all of the acts, Klemen won the jury vote and was selected to compete in the superfinal against fan favourite July Jones.

In an unexpected result for some fans, Klemen won the superfinal with over double the votes that July Jones received from the Slovenian public. Having won EMA 2025, Klemen won the right to represent Slovenia in Basel.
