France: Louane debuts her Eurovision 2025 entry 'Maman' at the Stade de France

It's been perhaps the most hyped entry of the entire season - but the wait is finally over.

This morning, French singer-songwriter Louane debuted her long-awaited entry for Eurovision 2025 during the halftime show for the France-Scotland Six Nations rugby match at the iconic Stade de France.

She was watched on by an estimated 80,000 live spectators and millions more watching across the world.

The song, Maman, is a tribute to Louane's mother, who passed away when the singer was very young.

The staging of the performance was specially designed for the Stade de France performance, with the delegation confirming that Louane's performance in Basel will look different. In the performance, Louane hovered above the Stade de France on a platform.

Widely hyped as a potential Eurovision winner before anything was known about the song, Louane will be hoping to go one better than her predecessors Barbara Pravi (2021, 2nd place) and Slimane (2024, 4th place) to take out the whole competition for France.

In interviews ahead of the song release, French head of delegation Alexandra Redde-Amiel was hyping the song, saying:

For me, there was what I would call the "12 points hook", an immediate impact. It's that moment where you say to yourself "yeah, we're definitely onto something with this artist".

Louane has described the recording process as being "very intense", even going so far as to reveal that she vomited during recording due to the emotional impact the song had on her.

Who is Louane?

28 years old, Louane is an established and well-known part of the French music scene who has been releasing songs for more than a decade.

She first came to prominence in 2013's edition of The Voice: La Plus Belle Voix, France's edition of the beloved reality show.

The following year, Louane also made her screen debut in 2014's La Famille Bélier, for which she received the César du meilleur espoir féminin in 2015, awarded to the best female debutee in a film during the year.

Louane has since released 5 albums and numerous singles, all of which have shot to the top 10 in France and two of which (Chambre 12 and Louane) hit number one in the Hexagon upon release.

Her most recent single before being announced for Eurovision, La Pluie, was released in June 2024.
