Eurovision 2025 favourites and Swedish entry KAJ have paid homage to Australian icon Big Kev.
The connection between KAJ and Aussie TV icon Big Kev seems unlikely, however it has somehow happened.
Members of the band KAJ, Jakob Norrgård and Axel Åhman, both have nicknames (SCHakob and Mr International respectively) but Kevin Holmström didn't have a fun moniker.
The band held a poll to choose one and they revealed the winning name to be..... Big Kev!
Now, as soon as an Australian (over a certain age) hears that name, a certain catchphrase comes to mind: "I'm excited!"
Big Kev, aka Kevin McQuay, was an Australian cleaning product entrepreneur and television personality.
In the early 2000s, his commercials and appearances on morning TV were always accompanied by the catchphrase "I'm excited!"
Somehow during the process of choosing the nickname, the Swedish entry found out about this connection and leaned into it.
When announcing the results of 'Big Kev' winning the poll, they said:
"Isn't that the famous Australian businessman?"
Before chowing clips of old commercials, followed by Kevin Holmström from the band repeating the phrase in a number of random and humorous locations!
He also attempts an Australian accent (we think?) at times.
The post looks like it has already made an impact with fans.
While Australia's Eurovision entry, Go-Jo, commented:
"hahaha i hope you know you have forever changed your name to big kev 😂"
The original Big Kev had a music career of sorts, apparently appearing as a guest vocalist on the track Organised Sadistik Abuse by band Sadistik Exekution
Big Kev sadly died of a heart attack in 2002 aged just 55-years-old.
