Welcome to five days of pure-distilled-Italian-genius which is the Sanremo Music Festival! For those who are unfamiliar - the competition is held in the picturesque town of Sanremo in the North-Western pocket of Italy.
Beginning in 1951, many of the best known names in Italian music took part as competitors, guests or composers. For Italians it is the music event on the calendar and will propel artists straight to the top of the charts.
Need a guide of how to follow Sanremo this year? We've got you covered here.
15 of the artists performed this morning during the show - here are the provisional results for the Top 5 consisting of the televote (50%) and radio jury (50%) votes.
Top 5 Results:
As they were announced
Giorgia – La cura per me
Simone Cristicchi – Quando sarai piccola
Fedez – Battito
Achille Lauro – Incoscienti giovani
Lucio Corsi – Volevo essere un duro
Newcomers semi-final
In addition to the main show this year's festival reverted back to having a separate Newcomers' competition. This is a format seen in previous editions.
The top four artists of Sanremo Giovanni competed today in the Newcomers' section.
The competing acts were:
Alex Wyse - Rockstar
Maria Tomba - Goodbye (Voglio good vibes)
Settembre - Vertebre
Vale LP and Lil Jolie - Dimmi tu quando sei pronto per fare l'amore
The two to go through to the final were:
Alex Wyse - Rockstar
Settembre - Vertebre
Iconic Moments:
Damiano David, the lead singer of Måneskin, made an appearance as a solo performer. His first performance was entirely in black and white with a more "mature" look. He also took to the stage for a rendition of his recent solo single Born with a Broken Heart.

The co-hosts of the evening paid homage to former Gianni Morandi and his famous "broom" moment of the 2023 festival (following Blanco destroying flowers).
Marco Mengoni did the same in 2024 and this time it was host Carlo Conti and his night 2 co-host Cristiano Malgioglio. However, this time a mop replaced the broom.
Co-host Cristiano Malgioglio stole the show many times throughout the show. His outfits were iconic including this ridiculously long train when first arriving.
