It was revealed on the Ö3 Wecker show on Austrian radio station Hitradio Ö3 that Austrian broadcaster ÖRF has internally selected Johannes Pietsch to represent Austria at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. Johannes Pietsch will be competing under his stage name JJ at Eurovision this year.
JJ is a male soprano opera singer best known for appearing on The Voice UK in 2020, where he impressed the judges with his operatic vocals and whistle register. He also appeared on the Austrian TV show Starmania 21 the following year.
He spent most of his childhood in Dubai and said in an interview on Ö1:
"My first formative encounter with culture and opera was visiting Mozart's Magic Flute with my grandparents at the Vienna State Opera when I was eleven. That fascinated me. It was a touching moment for me when I sang First Boy there in 2022 at the age of 21."
JJ's Eurovision entry will be released in March.
