Junior Eurovision 2024: Insights and stats

Junior Eurovision 2024 has wrapped up in Madrid, Spain with 17 acts competing for the coveted Junior Eurovision trophy!

To celebrate, we're taking a look at some interesting facts about this year's results!

Let's look at the Top 10, starting with the winner: Georgia

1st - Georgia

2024 is Georgia's fourth Junior Eurovision win which now makes them the country with the most ever Junior Eurovision wins! Georgia previously won the contest in 2008, 2011 and 2016.

Finishing sixth in the public vote and first with the juries, Georgia received 239 points, the same amount of points they received when Mariam Mamadashvili won for Georgia in 2016 with Mzeo. Only one Junior Eurovision song, Poland's 2019 entry Superhero has ever scored more points (278).

In a landslide jury win, To My Mom received 12 sets of 12 points from the juries, beating the previous record held by France 2022 & 2023 and Russia 2017 who all received four sets of 12 points from the juries. Only four juries did not have Georgia as their winner, with North Macedonia and Germany giving Georgia their 10 points and France and Poland awarding them 8.

To My Mom becomes the third song to win from 9th in the running order. Previous winners from 9th were Armenia's Maléna in 2021 and Ukraine's Anastasiya Petryk in 2012.

The song becomes the third winning entry to be sung in Georgian as Georgia's 2008 winning song was sung in an imaginary language.

To My Mom's co-writer Giga Kukhianidze is also Junior Eurovision's most successful songwriter, being involved with all four of the country's winning songs.

Andria Putkaradze is the fourth male solo artist to represent Georgia but is the first to win. Georgia's 2008 win was by the group Bzikebi (2 girls, 1 boy) and girl group Candy was their 2011 winner. Their last win in 2016 was by female soloist Mariam Mamadashvili.

2nd - Portugal

Victoria Nicole's runner up finish with Esperança gives Portugal their best ever Junior Eurovision result. Only one of their nine entries had previously made the Top 10 with Nicolas Alves finishing 8th in 2022.

Portugal won the online vote and came fourth with the juries with Germany awarding them 12 points.

3rd - Ukraine

Ukraine's Artem Kotenko achieved the country's 7th Top 5 finish from 19 appearances with Hear Me Now. 14 of Ukraine's 19 entries have finished in the Top 10, including their only win in 2012. They finished second in both the jury and online vote and received 12 points from North Macedonia and Poland.

4th - France

Despite a very respectable 4th place for Titouan's Comme ci comme ça (3rd with juries and 4th in online vote), 2024 sees the first year that France has not finished in the Top 3 since 2019. Three of their eight entries have won the contest (2020, 2022, 2023) and their lowest ever finish was their debut 2004 entry which finished 6th.

5th - Malta

Ramires Sciberras achieved Malta's sixth Top 5 result from 20 entries with Stilla ċkejkna. The song finished 8th with the juries but finished third in the online vote. It is Malta's equal best result since Ela also finished 5th in 2018. Malta has won the contest twice in both 2013 and 2015.

6th - Spain

One of only three Spanish entries to finish outside the Top 5, Como la Lola by Chloe DelaRosa still continues Spain's strong tradition at Junior Eurovision, with only one of their ten entries finishing outside the Top 10. Finished 6th with both the juries and 5th in the online vote.

7th - Albania

Nikol Çabeli's 7th place finish with Vallëzoj has given Albania their highest scoring Junior Eurovision entry ever and their second best result after a 5th place in 2015. Only finished 14th in the online vote but juries placed her 5th.

8th - Armenia

Leo continues the tradition for Armenia who have never finished outside the Top 10 in 17 appearances. 11 of their entries have finished in the Top 5 and they have won the contest twice in 2010 and 2021. Cosmic Friend received 12 points from France and Georgia. Finished 7th with the juries and 10th in the online vote.

9th - Italy

Simone Grande gives Italy their best result since 2019. Their highest result remains their debut winning entry in 2014. Finished 12th in the online vote but juries placed him 9th.

10th - Netherlands

As the only country to compete in every Junior Eurovision Song Contest since its beginning in 2003, the Netherlands has finished in the Top 10 in 14 out of their 22 appearances. Stay Tuned's Music continues the tradition of being the 12th Dutch entry in a row to feature both Dutch and English. Finished 8th in the online vote and 10th with the juries.
