About the artist: Enya Cox Dempsey
Enya Cox Dempsey is 14 years old and is from Castlecomer in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She is big on family and lives with her mum and the family dog, Pip.
Enya loves to sing - she has been singing and acting all her life, and has recently taken up playing the drums. Enya has grand plans to become a big pop star!
About the song: Le Chéile
The song Le Chéile is sung in Irish and translates to "Together".
The song is written by a trio of Irish songwriters and singer-songwriters in their own right: Ian James White, Laoise Ní Nualláin and Nicky Brennan. The song starts off as light and airy and then transitions to a poppy and anthemic chorus. The lyrics speak of hope and bravery with Enya expressing a desire to rise above challenges. When translated to English, the lyrics refer to being together "like stars in the sky", finding strength and facing obstacles with courage.
To represent Ireland at this year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Enya won the five-week selection process, Junior Eurovision Eire. The entrants competed over two rounds performing two covers and then two singers advanced to the final round where they both sung Le Chéile which was the pre-chosen song.
Le Chéile will be performed second last in Madrid on 16 November 2024.
Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest
Ireland made their debut at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia in 2015, finishing 12th. Since then, Ireland has competed in Junior Eurovision nine times. To date, their best result has been in 2022 with Sophie Lennon's Solas, which finished in a formidable fourth place.
Irish broadcaster TG4 is in charge of the Irish Junior Eurovision selection process. TG4 is dedicated to promoting the Irish language in their entries and all of Ireland's Junior Eurovision entries have all been sung in Irish. This year's entry is no different, with Enya's song Le Chéile also to be sung in Irish.
