Laura Thorn to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025

Craig Land

Early this morning in Australia, Luxembourg broadcaster RTL held the second edition of the Luxembourg Song Contest - and we have a winner!

The winner of the Luxembourg Song Contest 2025 is Laura Thorn, who will now go on to represent Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2025 with her song La poupée monte le son.

Laura Thorn is a music teacher at the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory in Luxembourg, after obtaining a Master's degree in music theory, music pedagogy and pop singing.

Her song, La poupée monte le son (which translates to "the doll turns up the volume" in English), references the beloved 1965 Eurovision winner (and pan-European hit), Poupée de cire, poupée de son, which was performed by yé-yé icon France Gaulle and composed by French composer Serge Gainsbourg.

Infamously, France Gall felt that she was "used" by Gainsbourg throughout her career - a sense that was literalised in the lyrics of Poupée de cire, poupée de son, where the lyrics compare her to a pliable "wax doll".

Now, in La poupée monte le son, Laura Thorn is a doll turning the tables, taking a control and striking out her own path!

The songs in Luxembourg Song Contest 2025 were judged with 50% of the scores coming from an international jury and 50% coming from the public vote.

The results of the jury were as follows

  1. Laura Thorn - 94 points

  2. Luzac - 62 points

  3. Rhythmic Soulwave - 52 points

  4. MANA - 36 points

  5. Rafa Ela - 36 points

  6. Zero Point Five - 16 points

The final results were as follows:

  1. Laura Thorn - 184 points

  2. Zero Point Five - 126 points

  3. Luzac - 93 points

  4. Rhythmic Soulwave - 81 points

  5. One Last TIme - 79 points

  6. MANA - 56 points

  7. Rafa Ela - 53 points

Luxembourg was one of the original high achievers of the Eurovision Song Contest, winning the contest no less than 5 times between 1956 and 1993 (in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983). However, they withdrew from participation after the 1993 contest, and then did not participate for the following 30 years.

The small country then returned unexpectedly for last year's contest in Malmö, where they were represented by TALI with "Fighter". TALI finished in 13th place with 103 points.
