After more than 30 years' absence, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg made their long-awaited return to the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö with Fighter by TALI, who successfully qualified to the grand final and won a respectable 13th place.
Now, hoping to make the final for a second time, Luxembourgish broadcaster RTL has announced the seven songs which will compete to be Tali's successor in Basel.
The Aussievision team has listened to all seven songs, and ranked them in order from favourite to least favourite, with points being allocated at a rate of 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 0. Tie-breaks are decided by the highest single score for the song, working down from 12 points until a split can be found.

"I am a bit of a sucker for an unusual voice, and this has sucked me in. While I am not sure this is 100% suitable for Eurovision, I think this song is the highest quality out of the bunch. Maybe this song could work on stage in the same way that Hooverphonic's 2021 song worked. It has jazz lounge vibes, and may appeal to a certain audience." ~Hayley
5. One Last Time - Gambler's Song (44 points)
Highs: 12 points from Emma, 8 points from Craig and John Christian
Lows: 0 points from Hayley, Laura and Joel; 2 points from Sam
"Pop rock is right up my alley so I quite enjoy this, although I suspect it may be stronger as a studio track than a live performance. Would need a strong staging concept to see it progress... will be interesting to see what they do with this for the live performance." ~Emma
"I really don't want to like this "Imagine Dargons"-esque desaturated, low-fat, Melfest rock entry, but... something's working for me here. The lyrics are fun, the riff is catchy, and overall this feels like a better product than the same band's attempt last year. I can't see it doing much damage at Eurovision, but in this line-up, it's a standout." ~Craig
4. Zero Point Five - Ride (62 points)
Highs: 10 points from John Christian, 8 points from Kiel, Dale, Joel, Liv and Jamie
Lows: 0 points from Sam, 2 points from Craig and Emma
"I'm a sucker for anything with even a hint of country and that's what we have with Ride. It has some really nice fiddle moments and I particularly like the first verse which feels far more genuine. However, it didn't climb to the top for me because it slides into generic country Europop including the lyrical genius of "now it is the time to change the time". However, it still did enough for me to really enjoy it" ~Dale
"If Eurovision 2025 really meant what one Redditor said as the "year of boy bops", then maybe this would take the cake, assuming Belgium sends a male bop as well and the Netherlands with Claude in it." ~John Christian
3. Rafa Ela - No Thank You (76 points)
Highs: 10 points from Kiel, Hayley, Laura, Liv and Emma, 8 points from Sam
Lows: 2 points from Jamie
"This is a decent effort that reminds me of Malta's Loop in this year's contest. With some good choreo and staging, this is probably Luxembourg's best chance of qualifying to the final in 2025." ~Emma
"This is so polished, it's still sticky. And while that makes Rafa Ela such a huge contender and most likely the favourite to win this contest, it also sounds like something that could have been taken out of a hit factory and passed onto her. All the boxes are ticked - it's a banger, there's high notes and slick production and you can imagine she's got a fantastic dance routine in the works for this too. The thing is, we've seen and heard this all before. Ultimately it'll be down to the voters, but, this is the most Basel-ready track of the lot." ~Kiel
2. Luzac - Je danse (92 points)
Highs: 12 points from Kiel and Dale, 10 points from Craig, Sam, Joel and Jamie
Lows: 0 points from John Christian
"This was co-written by Linda Dale who was part of the team behind The Code, and you can tell. There's definitely an influence there in the structure of the song but it still has its own point of view. It's strong and delicate and in French and I really enjoy it. One of the few I wanted to listen to again." ~Dale
"This is really funky! The bombastic chorus slams into the listener, causing almost blissful delirium. This and the chiaroscuro with lighter moments of the song, reminds me a little of Bambie Thug's Doomsday Blue. Staging will be the key for this entry, but there is the opportunity for something great. I hope classy Luxembourg takes a chance with this left-field act." ~Sam
"Let's be real here, Luxembourg's contest this year is Luzac vs Rafa Ela, and the rest are making up the numbers. I'm giving my 12 slightly to Luzac, mainly because it's a bit more edgy and out of the box, and those thumping choruses paint a picture for what could be some epic staging." ~Kiel
"What a thumper of a song! Luzac has packed so much drama into this song, that culminates in a loud-and-screamy chorus that is sure to stun the crowd on the Eurovision main stage if it gets that far." ~Joel
"The 2 Luxembourg entries sung in French are clearly the songs in the running to win this contest. The song really grows on you after listening to it a few times. Gotta love the line in the song "Je donne ma langue au chat" which translates literally to "I give my tongue to the cat"" ~Jamie
"I think this could use a slight revamp - and not in the passive-aggressive way that fans sometimes indicate that a song they don't like should be revamped, I literally just wish the production was a bit tighter. I think there's the bones of a good tune here, but the production feels a tad demo-ish and disjointed between the chorus and the verses. Luzac seems like a keen young performer, though, and this has the potential to have real impact - make those synths sound a bit more expensive and then we're cooking!" ~Craig
1. Laura Thorn - La poupée monte le son (112 points)
Highs: 12 points from Craig, Sam, Liv, Laura, John Christian, Joel and Jamie; 10 points from Dale
Lows: 2 points from Kiel
"I love France Gall, I love Poupée de cire, poupée de son, and this feminist rewriting of the 1965 Eurovision winner definitely scratches the same itch for me. It treads the line perfectly between a bouncy, fluffy aesthetic and more serious content. I'm unsure how it would do at the Contest, but it's clearly the best option in this selection, and there's precedent for something this frothy to do well (I'm think particularly of "Loin d'ici" from back in the day)." ~Craig
"There's a lot to love about this. Apparently it's a homage to France Gall's Poupée de cire, poupée de son but I hear a lot of 80s Eurovision in there which is an era I love. It gets a little twee at times (la la la la) but it's cute and I enjoy it. Lots of vocals to hit at the end though... so she'll have to be strong live." ~Dale
"I love this whimsical song. With its quirky nature and lyrics relating to dolls it reminds me of Luxembourg's 1965 winning entry by France Gall Poupée de cire, poupée de son. I can only hope Laura has the same success! The French lyrics also add to the light, playful nature of this entry." ~Sam
"This song is one of the stands out amongst the 7 song entries for Luxembourg. It is such a fun song and who doesn't love a good dance banger sung in French." ~Jamie
"OK, to be honest, I am still a sucker at girly girl bops and this one really takes the cake for being a cutesy French girl bop that would stand out in Eurovision. Not as bad as last year's "Paumée sur terre" or "Fighter", but at least Luxembourg made an improvement with this." ~John Christian
"This song is just too easy to love! The strings make for an instantly catchy sound that transforms into a classy club beat by the time the chorus hits. This is the type of song that would be even better when performed live." ~Joel
