Maiú Levi Lawlor wins Junior Eurovision Eire and will represent Ireland in Paris

This morning saw the final of Junior Eurovision Eire for 2021, with Maiú Levi Lawlor winning the contest and earning the right to represent Ireland at Junior Eurovision 2021.

This morning’s final saw the culmination of a long journey for Maiú, who had to battle through a sing-offs in both the heat and a semi-final to just make it.

Whereas in previous week’s contestants only had to sing one well known song in Gaelic, this morning’s finalists had to sing two to three songs in the final. All three finalists had to sing the song they originally sung in their heat, plus one of Ireland’s previous adult Eurovision songs.

After all three had performed both their songs, the judges picked the top two, who then went on to a sing off who decided who would represent Ireland in Paris.

In the final, Maiú sung ‘Hold Back the River by James Bay and Ireland’s 2013 song ‘Only Love Survives’, before singing ‘Grace’ by Lewis Capaldi in the sing off.

Maiú is 14-years-old and is from County Wicklow. Alongside singing, he loves swimming, basketball and is in the Scouts. He was also the only boy to make it out of the heats in Junior Eurovision Eire this year.

Unfortunately, although the show was pre -ecorded, viewers didn’t get to hear Maiú’s song that he will be singing in Paris, with that to be revealed at a later date.

Ireland is returning to the contest this year after an absence last year due to the pandemic.

Their best result was six years ago in Valletta, when Zena Donnelly finished in 10th place.

Junior Eurovision 2021 will take place in Paris on 19 December 2021, after the victory of France’s Valentina last year with 'J’imagine'.
