MJ O'Doherty eliminated from 'The Voice Australia' Battle rounds

MJ (Mary-Jean) O'Doherty, an Australian who represented Armenia in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest as part of supergroup Genealogy, has been eliminated in the Battle rounds of The Voice Australia Season 13.

Singing Oscar Hammerstein II & Richard Rodgers You'll Never Walk Alone, MJ was put up against fellow classically trained singer Matthew Hearne by coach Kate Miller-Heidke.

Speaking before her battle with Matthew, MJ said -

"I love his voice...I don't want to compete against him, I just want to sing with him! But I'm really committed to lifting my artistry to the next level".

Coach Kate added -

"The artist that shows me a strong centred emotive vocal the whole way through, as well as the artist that brings out their own sense of individuality...that will be the artist that goes through."

After the battle, Kate chose to put Matthew through to the next round of the competition, ending MJ's journey in the competition.

Before making her decision, Kate said -

"I'm so proud of you both...I think you both connected with the song really beautifully."

MJ was selected to Team Kate after singing Kate's own 2019 Eurovision entry Zero Gravity in the show's Blind Auditions.

MJ, who has an Australian father and Armenian mother, was part of supergroup Genealogy who represented Armenia at Eurovision in 2015 with 'Face the Shadow', finishing in 16th place.

In the years since, MJ has regularly posted videos of her performances on her YouTube channel.

We look forward to following her journey now that her time on 'The Voice Australia' has ended.
