In a hotly contested festival the band Måneskin proved too strong - taking home the Golden Lion on the final evening of Sanremo 2021 with the entry 'Zitti e buoni’ ('Shut Up And Be Quiet'). The pop-rock band finished runners up on X Factor Italy 2017, launching them into the local public eye. Lead by frontman Damiano David, they debuted for the first time at Sanremo this year.
Hailing from Rome, the band is comprised of:
Damiano David (Main vocalist)
Victoria De Angelis (Bass)
Thomas Raggi (Guitar)
Ethan Torchio (Drums)
There is something special about watching frontman Damiano David prowl around the stage and seeing the band in their element. Every performance is dripping in theatrics and drama - just perfect *mwah*. The song certainly lives up to the title, your jaw hits the ground so hard you can't help but sit up, shut up and pay attention.
It's to be noted that the winner of Sanremo will not necessarily go onto to represent Italy at Eurovision 2021. A decision is sometimes made on stage, shortly after the show or days later. It is up to the winning group. In all circumstances follow us here at Aussievision to stay up to date with the latest news.
For avid fans of the prolific Italian music festival it was a shock to see Ermal Meta miss out on the crown - he had been leading the scoreboards on every evening in convincing style. Additionally, he was the odds on favourite to take the contest with the bookies.
Italy has been knocking on the door for a win at Eurovision since their return - could 2021 be the year they make it happen with 'Zitti e buoni'? Give us your take at @aussievisionnet on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
