OGAE Song Contest 2024: Aussievision team rankings

For those unfamiliar, the OGAE Song Contest is an annual event where Eurovision fan clubs from across the globe submit original songs released within the past year, performed in one of their country's official languages.

Much like Eurovision itself, participants are prohibited from voting for their own entry, ensuring a fair and exciting competition.

The OGAE International Network (known in French as Organisation Générale des Amateurs de l'Eurovision, and in English as General Organization of Eurovision Fans), unites official Eurovision fan clubs worldwide. This year's contest features 24 countries vying for the crown, with voting set to close on October 28.

Following their victory last year with Harry Styles’ As It Was, OGAE United Kingdom has the honour of hosting this year’s competition.

But before the final votes are tallied, the Aussievision team has shared our own rankings of this year’s contenders—excluding Australia’s entry, Rush by Troye Sivan, of course!

Here are our team’s results, ranked in reverse order:

=21. Bulgaria: Dara Ekimova – Disham - 0 points

=21. North Macedonia: Tamara Todevska feat. Young Dadi - Ego - 0 points

=21. Hungary: cserihanna - Akinek én sok vagyok - 0 points

=18. Slovenia: Maja Keuc - Z mano tu - 7 points

=18. Poland: Daria Zawiałow - Złamane serce jest OK - 7 points

=18. Czechia: Vesna - Dokola - 7 points

=16. Belgium: Mahmood, Angele - SEMPRE / JAMAIS - 9 points

=16. Cyprus: Ivi Adamou - Eipes - 9 points

15. Serbia: Aleksandra Prijović - Dam Dam Dam - 10 points

14. Andorra: Sofia Coll - Q NO - 13 points

13. Portugal: Mimicat - Vais Ter Saudades - 16 points

12. Türkiye: Inji - Bellydancing - 18 points

“This hits you instantly. From the Turkish spoken word at the start to the club beat mixed with mariachi and then more traditional sounds. Verses, chorus and everything just works - it's just so damn catchy.” ~ Dale

11. Denmark: Kind mod Kind feat. Medina - Love Isn’t Easy - 21 points

And now for the Top 10!

10. France: Zaho de Sagazan - La symphonie des éclairs - 24 points

Highs: 12 points from Craig

Lows: 0 points from John, Troy, Dale, Emma, Fleur & Joel

“Zaho de Sagazan has been my most listened-to artist for the last year - the woman is the most interesting and innovative artist working in French pop right now, and this song is one of her absolute best. The lyrics are simple but convey tons of meaning, the production brings electro and lullaby-esque chanson together very well, and most importantly, it has an actual melody (not something to be taken for granted in 2024). Absolutely magical, and I hope that Zaho will end up following the same course as last year's French OGAE artist (a certain M. Slimane) right to the main contest. Superb.” ~ Craig

9. Greece: Marina Satti – Lalalala - 28 points

Highs: 8 points from Craig & Fleur

Lows: 0 points from Jamie, Sam & Joel, 2 points from Troy

8. Croatia: Baby Lasagna - IG BOY - 29 points

Highs: 12 points from Sam, 8 points from Jamie

Lows: 0 points from John, Craig, Dale, Emma & Joel

“I love how this entry is in the style of Baby Lasagna that you recognise is him, yet it is not a copy and paste version of Rim Tim Tagi Dim. The rock elements in the chorus is the highlight of this absolute banger. I hope Baby Lasagna comes back to Eurovision one day to avenge his runners-up result.” ~ Sam

7. Rest of the World: Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please - 30 points

Highs: 10 points from John & Joel

Lows: 0 points from Craig, Troy, Fleur & Sam, 2 points from Dale

“You'd be hard-pressed to find a better song for 2024 than this one. Please Please Please has such a captivating, dreamy vibe that I can't help but love. The song blends a cool, laid-back rhythm with Sabrina's velvety vocals, creating this effortlessly catchy and emotional experience. The lyrics are heartfelt, balancing vulnerability and desire in a way that feels relatable and intimate.” ~ Joel

“If Dua Lipa won't win, this song might because Sabrina Carpenter peaked at the level of being a "pop princess" since her Espresso days.” ~ John

6. Germany: Sophie & The Giants x Purple Disco Machine - Paradise - 35 points

Highs: 8 points from Troy, Emma & Joel

Lows: 0 points from John, Craig & Dale, 1 point from Sam

“Purple Disco Machine deliver quality 80s sound that they make effortlessly contemporary every time. Masters at what they do.” ~ Troy

5. Spain: Ana Mena - Madrid City - 37 points

Highs: 10 points from Dale and Sam

Lows: 0 points from Fleur & Joel, 2 points from Craig

“The Spanish artist so poorly treated at Sanremo is a POP STAR in this. Such a well produced song that gives me modern Spanish with a touch of Robert Miles 90s piano club hit. I'm obsessed with this.” ~ Dale

“A Euroclub classic that is in the style of music I enjoy listening to outside of Eurovision. After discovering this entry I would love to see Ana try her hand at Benidorm Fest and hopefully Eurovision one day.” ~ Sam

4. United Kingdom: Dua Lipa - Dance The Night - 52 points

Highs: 12 points from John, 10 points from Emma

Lows: 0 points from Jamie, 1 point from Dale

“If Barbenheimer didn't exist, this song would've never reached that insane level of popularity. Thankfully, that song deserves to win the OGAE Song Contest because of that trend.”~ John

“It's impossible not to like Dua Lipa's slice of disco perfection from the 'Barbie' soundtrack.  Whilst not my favourite Dua Lipa track, it was the perfect song for the infamous Margot Robbie dancing scene and always brings a smile to my face when I hear it.” ~ Emma

3. Finland: Käärijä & Erika Vikman - Ruoska - 53 points

Highs: 12 points from Troy & Jamie, 10 points from Fleur

Lows: 0 points from Dale & Emma

“I have happy memories of not panicking while driving on the wrong side of the road for the first time in rural Finland while this song played. It’s also a relentless bop. I’m sure the reindeer and moose that heard it as a drove past white knuckling the steering wheel agree.” ~ Troy

“This song collaboration is awesome with a great beat and would not be out of place representing Finland in a Eurovision final.” ~ Jamie

“I would have preferred that Finland sent this to Malmö. They're both icons. It's the perfect collaboration.” ~ Fleur

2. Sweden: Purple Disco Machine & Benjamin Ingresso (ft. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea) - Honey Boy - 56 points

Highs: 12 points from Emma & Fleur, 10 points from Craig

Lows: 0 points from John & Dale, 2 points from Jamie

Honey Boy has been on high rotation on my playlist ever since Ingrosso's Eurovision interval performance.  It's an infectious pop banger that deserves to be a worldwide hit but hopefully a win in the OGAE Song Contest will just have to do!” ~ Emma

“I have not stopped listening to it since Eurovision. I made sure to add it to my Spotify as soon it was released. That simple.” ~ Fleur

“Benjamin Ingrosso is cool, and this song lets him basically just be cool for 4 minutes. It perhaps gets just a tad repetitive by the end (maybe a three-minute edit would give it a kick), but the production is superb and the video is funny and memorable. Get Benjamin back in Melfest this instant!” ~ Craig

1. Italy: Annalisa - Euforia - 61 points

Highs: 12 points from Joel, 10 points from Troy & Jamie

Lows: 0 points from Sam

“If you had've asked me a month ago if this song would be in my top 10, let alone my #1, I would have laughed at you. Annalisa has had so much hype around her San Remo Song Festival entry Sinceramente (a song of which I am not a fan) so I kinda dismissed her. What a mistake that was! This high-energy banger has been on repeat for me lately with no sign of being replaced any time soon. A perfect Europop anthem that deserves to take out the contest.” ~ Joel

“Annalisa is a superstar. Once she cracks San Remo and makes it to the ESC main stage she’ll light up the world. Watch out Dua.” ~ Troy

“Annalisa again mesmerises with this song. She was unlucky to not represent Italy with her song Sinceramente at San Remo song festival and one day I am sure she will get to represent Italy at Eurovision.” ~ Jamie
