Ahead of the Australian leg of Eurovision on Tour, Aussievision spoke to Eurovision royalty and three-time representative of San Marino (2011, 2020 and 2021), Senhit.
Senhit spoke about her Eurovision experiences and what to expect from Eurovision on Tour next week (yes, next week!!).
We first heard of Senhit back in 2011 when she was chosen to represent San Marino with Stand By.
Although this song didn't get through to the Grand Final, she returned in 2020 with her fun party anthem Freaky!
While the contest may have been cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, she returned the following year with the song that all took us by surprise, Adrenalina.
She performed this song in the Grand Final where she got to show us her unique style and vibrant personality and energy. Senhit was joined on stage by American rapper, Flo Rida, putting to rest one of the biggest questions of the year and giving us one of the most unique collaborations in Eurovision history.
So Senhit, you're coming out to do Eurovision on Tour in Australia, is it your first time here? What are you looking forward to seeing or doing here?
Yeeeees it is my first! Once I arrive in Australia and I am very happy and excited...and it's the first time I arrive in Australia with such an important show. I plan to fully enjoy the Australian atmosphere, even though it's a short time as we're doing Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in a few days!
Also... it is almost summer so even better!
What do you think about Australian Eurovision fans and the fact Australia is in Eurovision despite being on the other side of the world?
I think it will be very exciting to meet Australian fans who follow Eurovision with great passion despite being actually on the other side of the world. I know for sure that they will be warm and welcoming.
What can people expect from the Eurovision on Tour experience and your performances in particular?
It is an explosive and fun show and there are several artists from different states that bring the greatest successes of Eurovision.
Without any kind of competition and therefore no tension but only a beautiful evening and super super fun!!!
You've had three Eurovision songs: Stand By, Freaky and Adrenalina, I know it's like choosing a favourite child, but which is your favourite?
A difficult choice. So I'll just answer all... Adrenalina is the one that consecrated me and made me famous in the world!
But if there wasn't Stand By there wouldn't be Eurovision and then Freaky. It is really difficult to choose.
All are a set of beautiful emotions and beautiful memories!
Now people will also remember you for Flo Rida, what was it like working with him and have you been in touch since Rotterdam?
"Working with rapper Flo Rida was a great privilege and honour. We spoke by Zoom ('cause of covid!) for a long time before we met in Rotterdam for the first time when we had one day of rehearsal and it was really pure adrenaline!
He is a complete artist and a special person. We stayed in very good relationship and occasionally write to each other.
It seems like there is a lot of financial cost to do Eurovision in the modern era, do you have any advice to artists on how to handle that?
To participate in Eurovision you need many elements, first of all a beautiful song and a beautiful show!!!! Then certainly the state that supports you (in my case San Marino!) was fundamental to me both on an economic and support level.
The people from San Marino helped a lot with the creative and logistical team and then had so much patience and perseverance.
Comparing your experience of Eurovision in 2011 to 2021, what were the biggest changes you saw in the Contest?
Well, sooooo many changes. I grew so much over the 10 years but above all, the show grew too. I was young, unripe and a little superficial about the show and in 10 years I surrounded myself with a team that helped me grow both artistically and as a human.
In the lead-up to Rotterdam you did your Freaky Trip to Rotterdam, if you were to do that today what song would you cover?
Without being modest, many songs of the year 2021 because it was a year rich in beautiful songs and very good artists.
Now lastly, would you consider doing Eurovision, entering Eurovision for a fourth time?
Why not..... never say never!
