The all-time "Olympic Medal Tally" of the Eurovision Song Contest

All the eyes of the world are currently on Paris for the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games.

As athletes from hundreds of nations compete, their victories are combined in the overall medal tally.

The medal tally is ranked by the number of gold medals, then silver medals then bronze. Unless you are in the United States where they inexplicably rank by total medals.

This got us thinking, what would the overall medal tally look like for Eurovision?

We've gone through all the editions since 1956 for the overall medal tally of nations who finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd at the Contest we all know and love.

The following nations have yet to finish in the top three: Andorra, Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Czechia, Georgia, Hungary, Lithuania, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, San Marino, Slovakia and Slovenia,

So, even though Ireland and Sweden are tired for wins, Ireland gets in front with more second places.

The medal tally also shows just how unlucky the UK has been over the years with 16 runner-ups!

For a country who only joined in 2015, 30th on the medal tally isn't too bad. Hopefully we can add to that in the coming years.

And you have to feel sorry for Malta, the small nation that loves Eurovision so much has the most podium finishes without taking out the title.
