The White Lotus features Thai cover of this Eurovision winning song

Eurovision fans who watched the fourth episode of television show The White Lotus may have heard a familiar song.

The third season of the show is set in Thailand and features many local songs as part of its soundtrack.

During the episode Hide or Seek, a Thai cover of the winning song of Eurovision 1978 A-Ba-Ni-Bi was played.

The version was by Hongtong Daoudon, a luk thung and molam singer from the north-eastern part of Thailand.

Israeli outlet Y News reported on its use back in February.

They spoke to the song's writer Nurit Hirsch about the request to include it.

“A very good friend of mine from Los Angeles called me, she works with the show’s music producer, and she connected us," Hirsch said.

"They asked me and Ofra Manor (lyricist Ehud Manor’s daughter) for permission to use the song in the series, and we agreed.”

Before adding:

"But I’ve never heard this Thai version. No one ever sent it to me— I’m really curious to find out how the producer discovered the song.”

Not the first Eurovision-related White Lotus connection

A Sanremo favourite also appeared in the second season of The White Lotus set in Sicily.

La Rappresentante di Lista's song Ciao Ciao finished 7th at Sanremo Music Festival in 2022.

The winner of the festival usually goes on to compete for Italy at Eurovision.

The song was used in an iconic scene of Jennifer Coolidge's character Tanya at a rather debaucherous party in Palermo.

 A-Ba-Ni-Bi won Eurovision 1978

The song won Eurovision 1978 and was performed by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta.

They won the contest in Paris by 32 points over Belgium's L'amour ça fait chanter la vie.

Izhar competed again in 1985 finishing 5th with Olé, Olé.
