Icelandic pop duo Væb have won Söngvakeppnin 2025 with the song Róa and will represent Iceland at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

Róa stormed both the juries and televote with the high energy Nordic-pop-folk inspired entry. Væb opted to keep the song in Icelandic for their grand final performance.

Iceland will compete in the first half of the first semi-final at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

Væb held off the charge from Stebbi Jak and Júlí & Dísa in second and third place respectively.

The contest which was held at the RVK Studios in Reykjavík. Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir and Fannar Sveinsson, hosted this year's edition, all three had hosted Söngvakeppnin before.

Guest performers for the night included the ever-fabulous Hera Björk (Icelandic representative in 2010 and 2024), and Käärijä (Finnish representative in 2023) together with Swedish electronic duo Hooja.

Results:

1. Væb – Róa - Jury: 74, Public: 93. 167 votes

2. Stebbi Jak – Set Me Free - Jury: 57, Public: 85. 142 votes

3. Júlí & Dísa – Fire - Jury: 63, Public: 74. 137 votes

4. Bjarni Arason – Aðeins lengur - Jury: 44, Public: 39. 83 votes

5. Tinna – Words - Jury: 53, Public: 22. 75 votes

6. Ágúst – Like You - Jury: 45, Public: 23. 68 votes

In a change from previous years, qualifiers from the semi-finals were chosen via 100% public voting. The winner of the final was determined by 50% international jury and 50% public voting. This is the first time an international jury has been used at Söngvakeppnin.

This year three songs from each semi-final competed in the final, comprising of six songs instead of five with no wildcard being awarded. In the previous format, two songs were selected from each semi-final via public vote and a fifth was chosen by the jury to compete in the final.

Another change was the absence of a super-final round in the final.

Iceland at Eurovision

This years Eurovision Song Contest will mark Iceland's 40th participation. Their best result is 2nd place which has occurred twice; Selma in 1999 with the song All Out of Luck and in 2009 with Yohanna and the song Is It True?.

In 2024, Iceland was represented by Hera Bjork with Scared of Heights which failed to qualify for the final. Bjork previously competed at Eurovision in 2010 with Je ne sais quoi, where she placed 19th.
