Why G Flip should represent Australia at Eurovision 2025

After a disappointing non-qualification in 2024, its time for Australia to get back on the horse and back to being a major contender at Eurovision.

Our focus first and foremost should be sending a representative that is going to make Europe stand up and take notice, and make us a legitimate chance to win the whole thing.

We don't yet know if SBS will bow to the strong calls to revive Australia Decides or some sort of national selection in 2025.

If they again internally pick our entry, there's an act I believe will tick so many boxes, revive our fortunes and grow the contest's following here.

It's time to reach out to Georgia Flipo - aka G Flip - and see what they're up to in May next year. Here's why:

Who are they?

G Flip is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Melbourne. They first started playing drums and percussion when they were nine years old and played in local band EMPRA before going solo after the band split.

They first broke onto the scene in 2018 with their debut single About You. Since then, they have released two full-length albums, About Us in 2019 and last year's follow-up Drummer. Some of their most well-known songs include The Worst Person Alive, Killing Time, Drink Too Much and Good Enough.

As their star rose, G Flip embarked on major tours and plenty of sold-out shows throughout Australia and across the world.

This month, they're playing the Leeds and Reading Festivals in the UK and famed venues like Shepherds Bush Empire in London, before returning home to headline the Triple J One Night Stand in Warrnambool.

Proudly non-binary, G Flip married American actress and reality TV star Chrishell Stause last year - and their relationship has seen her become part of the Hollywood social scene.

They've got a huge following and are a Triple J favourite.

Along with having an international profile - G Flip is a switched-on and well-connected social media user. Check out these follower numbers on their profiles:

But their major strength is being an absolute darling of youth broadcaster Triple J and their audience. G Flip was discovered through their new music platform Triple J Unearthed in 2018, and five years later, Drummer was named Australian Album of The Year at the 2023 J Awards.

At the start of this year, G Flip shattered records to become the first artist to score seven entries in a single year of the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown. This is one of the world's biggest song contests which has been running for 35 years. It's pretty amazing stuff.

If that wasn't enough - both of their covers for Triple J's Like A Version series have more than 1 million views. In fact, their cover of Taylor Swift's Cruel Summer (closing in on 2 million views) was praised by Taylor herself and obviously got on the radar of her legions of 'Swifties'.

Aside from touring, it's not as if Europe hasn't heard of G-Flip. In 2020, they won 'Best Australian Act' at the MTV Europe Awards.

A MTV Europe-approved award winner competing at Eurovision? Hello again to another HUGE demographic who has heard of you and might vote for you!

They can take on any gig and smash it

Big crowds and huge audiences are a breeze for G Flip. Through relentless touring and plenty of hard work, they can work a crowd in whatever setting. They belted out a bit of Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl at the AFL Grand Final at the MCG in 2022 to a lazy 100,000 people.

And in recent years, we've seen them sing or belt out a drum solo in all sorts of settings - whether it's popping up at an award show, a major festival or sporting event, or being in ad campaigns for everything from Bonds to FitBit or UberEats.

G Flip isn't shy to take on new experiences and you can imagine that if they signed up for Eurovision, they would also be embracing the experience head-on and giving it all they've got, something that bodes well for making a splash in the competition.

They'll stand out

With the exception of Voyager, our first band entrant, Australia hasn't sent many acts who have a singer and their instruments up front for all to see.

G Flip would create a new narrative in most European viewers minds away from the usual 'Why is Australia in this competition?' and the negative sentiment that can deter them from voting for us.

It's no secret we struggle to get televote points in Grand Finals, and if G Flip comes armed with a brilliantly staged performance and a killer song, it's certain to make more of Europe want to chuck some votes our way.

The staging potential is enormous

If G Flip went to Eurovision, the stage could literally be a huge canvas for them to show off her vocals and multi-instrumental skills. Just take a look at their performance of The Worst Person Alive at last year's ARIAs.

Imagine G Flip rising up on an elevated platform belting out a drum solo - or jumping off the kit before singing up a storm or busting out a few notes on the guitar. It's a tantalising prospect!

Remember when our eyes popped out at Kate Miller-Heidke on her bendy pole in Tel Aviv? Or Jaguar Jonze and her band breaking out of her giant box at Australia Decides in 2020? G Flip has the potential and the unique star quality to stage a performance that's on this level. Watch the votes come rushing in if they get it just right.

Sign them up

Let's recap what we have here with G Flip. A multi-instrumentalist who's got an international profile, well-known hits, massive Triple J street cred, is part of the LGBTIQ community and has proven live performance chops. And they've got the rubber stamp of approval from the biggest female artist in the world, and has won music awards in Europe before.

There isn't another artist out there with similar qualities to draw comparisons to, nor would they fit in some sort of generic category (pop singer and dancer, balladeer, electro act, band or duo etc). They are offering something Eurovision has rarely seen before.

They would be a perfect pick to represent Australia at Eurovision, and I for one want to see them soaring on a stage somewhere in Switzerland in 2025.

But G Flip isn't the only artist which the Aussievision team is keen to see represent Australia at Eurovision. Check out my fellow team members' cases for Dannii Minogue, Noah Dillon and Thelma Plum.

Why G Flip should represent Australia at Eurovision and whether the trip will be worthwhile and affordable for them. I believe that this decision will be quite expensive in financial terms and it is not known whether there will be such a great opportunity. A great website https://valorbetindia.in/ can help you with this question. And the bonuses for newcomers will not leave anyone indifferent, it is worth a try
